Do OG questions repeat on GMATprep ?

by moadhia » Sun Mar 15, 2009 6:48 pm
I just did a POWERPREP test since I didn't want to use up my GMATPrep yet. I was disappointed to see a good chunk of the questions being repeated from OG. Although I did score 750 (Q51, V39) I know I am not near the 750 range.

My only concern now is if the same thing happens during the GMATPrep test. Will I see repeats from OG ?
If so, these tests are kinda useless because of these overlapping questions. It gives us all a false sense of hope. Clearly its not an accurate reflection of one's abilities.

How will I be able to judge my current level in GMAT ?

Not long ago I posted a similar question and someone responded that the prep tests will contain a few, but not many, questions repeated from the OG.

Can you tell me the distinction between the POWERPREP AND THE GMATPrep tests? The only preparation tests I am aware of are the two free tests that are downloaded directly from the GMAC website.

Also, can you tell me which OG are using: OG10 or OG11?

I do not want to ruin my practice tests either by mastering OG first.

POWERPREP is an older version of GMATPrep. Well based on my PowerPrep experience, I would say 20-30% of the questions were repeats. I didnt know the answers to them but when you have seen a question once, you know what its asking about and it takes away this whole time pressure.

Btw, I am using OG11. I havent looked at OG10.

PowerPrep is pretty out of date now; it's the practice software that was distributed back when ETS was designing the GMAT. Many of the questions from PowerPrep and the old paper tests were reprinted in the Official Guide. If you can get PowerPrep (it's hard to find now), it's not a bad test to do, but the level of difficulty of the questions in PowerPrep is lower than on GMATPrep or the real thing. If you don't have PowerPrep, don't worry about it - GMATPrep is much more useful.

There's much less overlap between the OG11 and the GMATPrep software, though there's still some - not enough that it should be a concern, however.
