I gave my real GMAT today and am totally shocked to see a score of 590(M47, V25).
One year earlier I had given the exam and received similar 600(M49,V24).

My test scores of Mock exam stand like this:
1. GMAT Prep 710
2. GMAT Prep 700 (9 Days before actual exam)
MGMAT 1 660 (M47,V33) 9/10/2009
MGMAT 2
MGMAT 3 670 (M46, V35) on 9/12/2009
MGMAT 4 660 (M44, V35) on 2/26/2010
MGMAT 5 680 (M46, V36) on 3/3/2010
MGMAT 6 700 (M48, V37) on 03/12/2010

Please advise. I feel totally shattered, even after all this preparation I really do not know what else can be done.
I am planning to give the exam again in a month's time, but am not sure what else to do. Or what am I doing wrong.

GMAT exam details:
I was confident of 49 in actual exam for Maths. Left a few questions in exam beacuse of time constraint, I could have actually solved these. left questions on inequality and Venn diagrams.

For verbal:
I solved questions based on the time grid I had made.

75 1
60 8-11
45 16-19
30 24-27
15 32-35
I faced some tough CR questions, for which I could only come down to 2 probable answers.
RC passages were also easier compared to what were present in OG12.
I am not confident of my SC answers.

Please advise what should be done differently.

You definitely need to improve your verbal score. I guess you are fine with your Math.

You say that you are not confident in your SC answers. That lack of confidence sometimes hurts you more and creates panic within you during the D-day. It's good if you start from the scratch (grammar fundamentals) for SC. I recommend MGMAT SC guide after you are fine with your grammar. I used Wren & Martin book but you may get a better grammar book in the market in my opinion.

And, i don't recommend following a time grid during the exam. It's a perfect distracting factor while doing the exam. I always take questions one by one. I would ensure that i would not take more than 2 mins for every question. I also ensure that i take 3 min for each passage. By following this method, i'm able to concentrate better and answer properly and more importantly finish the exam on time.

just to add on a few more details:
1. Both my GMAT prep exam were given following the complete time lines(went to public library to get the same evironment)
2. In MGMAT prep exam I used to give some Maths part first followed by verbal later in the evening.
3. Did anybody use the Powerscore CR bibile.....I read that it is a good book.

Received a PM asking me to respond.

Your practice verbal scores were likely somewhat inflated because you took a very long break (most of the time) before you did the verbal section. On the real test, you're already pretty tired by the time you get to the verbal section.

Also, did you do the essays on GMATPrep? Did you see any questions you'd seen before, or was this the first time you were taking GMATPrep?

Read this article, do the analysis (thoroughly!), and come back here to post.

Also, were you studying from OG materials? On verbal, especially, it's important to use OG as a primary source because a lot of the skill is specific to the language and structure used by the writers of particular questions. (And OG questions, of course, were written by the real test-writers.) It is the case that OG often doesn't have great explanations, so you do have to use other sources in conjunction with OG - but it's important to keep going back to OG.

Also, read this article and do the analysis described on your last MGMAT test (and then come back here to post):

Hi,

This is exactly what happened to me. I took the test for the 2nd time on Sept 19 and scored a mere 590 after months of studying and practice tests. I scored above 650 in all the MGMAT and GMAT prep test however, I scored poorly on the verbal section. I did get a little nervous during the verbal section.

I would like to take the test again before end of November this year but I have not been able to revisit the studying routine. I finished all the study material and tests before my last attempt and I don't know where to start. Pls advise on how I can get back to my studies and prepare well.
