Hi,request help with the above question.Thanks..
A - comparing RISING RATES with CONSUMER AND PRODUCER (not apples to apples comparison); drop
C - couple of issues: (1) use of ARE RISING changes original meaning HAVE BEEN RISING (meaning prices started rising sometime in past and still continuing), (2) HAVE is not parallel with ARE RISING
D- LIKE is used in a clause (AS required); what does DO signify - not clear; drop
E - AS used in phrase (LIKE required)

IMO B

Interesting question. My answer: B

A) Rising interest rates wrongly compared with consumer and producer prices.

C) There's nothing wrong with "as ..... so" construction. Merely because "as ..... as" construction is more often used does not make "as ..... so" wrong. Nevertheless, this sentence is wrong because it uses "are" in the first part of the sentence and uses "have" in the second part. The correct version should be:

"As interest rates are rising, so are consumer and producer prices."

D) "Like" is used to compares two nouns. However, this sentence compares "rising" (a verb) with "interest rates"(a noun). Wrong.

E)"As" is used to compare two actions (which can be either a phrase or a verb). However, this sentence uses "as" to compare two nouns. Wrong. The following sentence is correct:

"Consumer and producer prices, like interest rates, have been rising."
