I shall be applying for Business school this fall. I hope to change my career industry through the MBA. Will it be a good choice to intern with a target industry company this summer?
Also, I have limited options for recommendations. Given that there is nearly 6 months (R1 deadline) 9 months (R2 deadlines), what are my options to 'develop' a referee during this period?
Applications September 2013!

Hello,
Are you in college right now? If you could provide a little more context, that would be very helpful! If you're in college, you can use past internship managers as recommenders, or mentors or professors that you are particularly close to. And yes, doing an internship in the industry you're targeting would make sense, both for your career and your MBA application!
Hope that helps,
Mili

No I am not in college. I am working in the family business and am looking to switch careers to management consulting. I should mention here that I moved from working in the finance industry to the family business earlier in my career.
As regards the recommendation, I can get one recommendation from a client but am finding it difficult to find my second referee.

Ah, I see. In that case, I might suggest that you use a recommender from your days in the finance industry - a previous direct supervisor. Are you still in touch with anyone in that capacity?
Alternatively, are there any supervisors in your family business who are not actually related to you? Or do you feel their recommendations would be biased either way? If that's not an option, you might need to think about mentor figures or supervisors you've had in non professional capacities (if you're an athlete, it could be a coach you've worked with and who is still a mentor, or if you are on a nonprofit board, it could be the chair of that board...)
Any of these options?
