Hey,

I am not so sure whether I am right posting here. I am actually not interested in a MBA program, but rather want to do a specialised Master. However, I didn't find a section for specialised Master, thus, I thought I post my profile here.

I am 23 years old and have an BA in International Business Studies (not so sure how to transfer German grades to the American system, was told my GPA is somewhere between 3,8 und 4,0) and recently scored a 730 in the GMAT (49 quant, 41 verbal, AWA results still outstanding). So far I have less than one year full-time work experience (did a three-months internship in the corporate finance department of a German utility and am currently doing an internship in the product controlling department of an international manufacturer). I really liked the corporate finance internship, however, I am more interested in M&A and consulting. Thus, I guess an specialised Master in Finance and/ or Accounting or a Master in International Management would be the best choices for me.

I am now wondering where I should apply. I would love to have a program with an international touch, therefore, I considered Hult's Master in International Business, but have now read so many mixed reviews that am not sure if I should really go for it. Any advice or suggestions of other programs are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

It is your luck that someone actually knows about MS programs and can guide you. But, before I provide you with any further guidance - could you break down your GMAT percentile for math and verbal separately me?

Thanks,
-S

Hi Sophia,

here my percentile for math and verbal:

math: 49 / 87%
verbal: 41 / 92%

total: 730 / 96%

I hope that is what you were asking for. If you need any further information, please let my know and I will try to provide you with any information you need. Maybe I can already give you an insight into which business school I have considered so far.

As mentioned above, Hult's Master in International Business is quite intersting. But since Hult's reputation is kind of dodgy, I am not so sure whether I should go there. Maybe you could comment on that. As an international alternativ I have also thought of Thunderbird or IE's Master of International Management. Actually, IE is my favorite school so far, as it has a really good reputation and students who I have contacted gave me a very good feedback regarding the faculty. However, I am not sure about my chances of getting accepted at IE since I consider my profile not as strong as the profile of many other applicants (eg I am completely lacking any charity work or other social work). I am also interested in MIT: Sloan's Master of Finance, but once again do not think that my chances of being accepted are very good.

Well, guess that's it from my side. I am looking forward to your guidance and advice and thanks a lot for your help.

Kind regards, triple1986

Hey Sophia,

I understand that you are very busy at the moment. I intend to apply for fall 2010, thus, deadlines are closing in on me as well. However, I have time until the beginning / mid of January, so I do have a little time left before I have to submit my application. Just help me out whenever you have time.

Greetz, triple

If you want to know how to stack up compared to other candidates, you should check out MIT Sloan's MFIN class profile for last year.
