What to do on Test Day

by Suz » Sat Aug 04, 2012 5:20 am
Hi all,

Just wanted your thoughts- I have my exam coming up in a few days. Its scheduled for 1 pm and I usually wake up early in the morning(7-8 am). What do you recommend I do in the morning before the test... I start feeling a little sleepy by 1 on a regular day- probably cause I'm study till then-but I'm wondering whether its a good idea to change my sleep cycle. Also, with regard to the food I take to the test centre- are chocolates and gatorade a good idea?

Thanks

If you feel a little sleepy, then you definitely want to change your sleep cycle--I learned that the hard way!

As for what to do, you want to spend a little time reviewing. Naturally, actually doing problems is too much of an expenditure of mental energy. I'd recommend against it. But reviewing some quizzes you've already done, to pull strategies and content up from memory. Aside from that, do something relaxing--though stay away from TV and computer screens, because you'll be staring at one for hours and don't want to strain your eyes!

Finally, I'm hardly a nutritionist, but most people I know don't advise chocolate. The energy from the processed sugar might not last the test. Something more substantial, like an energy or granola bar, is probably a better idea.

Best of luck, and let me know if I can do anything else to help!

Thanks Eli..Just another follow up question-
How many days before the exam should I stop giving practice tests(full length)? Also- is it a good idea to do timed sets of problems the day before the exam- or should I just relax and do nothing?

Thanks for your time :)
