I am not sure about the third answer. Can anybody advice please?
Please refer below lines from the passage -
Laissez-faire capitalism, they suggest, clashed with existing religious and communitarian norms that imposed ......
It is stated that "norms" clashed with laissez-faire capitalism but its a stretch to assume that they provided "primary source of opposition."

Similarly lines "..... these norms persisted long after the American Revolution helped unleash the economic forces that produced capitalism." suggest that norms relevant to ideology of the American Revolution.Again we will have to make a stretch to assume that these norms were recognized by historians as an important part of the American Revolution ideology.

option A and E both require a stretch to be the correct ans. For me, A seems to be the right one.

E) This is correct. Did capitalism face any significant resistance?"
My USD:
capitalism faced challenges.

attend any question that is about the "primary purpose"
of the passage.

Progressive historians
supported welfare worker.

Scholars supported
laissez-faire (unregulated)

So this is about historians and scholars.
The question is:
According to the passage, the Progressive historians mentioned in line 5
and the scholars mentioned in line 17 disagree with regard to which of the following?

So the answer is (E) - there was opposition, but it was not significant opposition.
Laissez faire is fair pay - fair work.
Scholar is no work - no pay.
Both are like, the end result is the same.
If you work well, you are rewarded.
