Let's examine some perfect squares that are close to 1000

30² = 900
31² = 961
32² = 1024

So, 1000 lies between 961 (aka 31²) and 1024 (aka 32²)
1000 is closer to 1024 (aka 32²) than to 961

Answer: D

1024 is the perfect square closest to 1000.

Therefore, D is the answer.

We see that 32^2 = 1,024 and 31^2 = 961, so 32^2 is closest to 1000.
