I said never spend extra time on questions that are truly beyond your ability - that's not the same thing as a merely hard question. People will hit a few questions that are well beyond their ability - and, for those, you don't want to blow *extra* time on them b/c you can't do them in 4 or 5 minutes, let alone 2.

:)
Actually, I was quoting snuman, not you! I'm not trying to start a prepwar or anything!

Although it could be fun... OG indices at 50 paces.

Thank you guys for your insightful suggestions.

My practice experience also suggests that the question that is beyond your capacity is destined to go wrong no matter you spend 3 mins or 8 mins on it. So self-awareness is very crucial as mentioned by Stuart.

Thanks Stacy again. I really learned from your advice on time management both here and at the manhattangmat.com blog. Now i will give each question the time it deserves.

I am gonna take GMAT 3rd time in the 2nd week of Feb and will let you know my experience :).

I have got the following reply from Pearson against my complaint of low GMAT:-

"The exam is scored first at the testing center. It is then scored again using a different algorithm when it arrives at our corporate hub. The scores are compared. If there is any difference, a hold is put on the result.

Both times your exam was scored, the results were the same. Also, we did an additional check to see if any errors occurred while you were taking the test, and none were found.

Based on these verifications, we feel your score is accurate."

The question that still bothers me is that how come i got 18 in verbal whereas all my practice scores are above 30 :(((.

Thanks for the update. It seems like the results have been confirmed--I guess you have no choice but to bite the bullet and move on. It seems you are completely capable of a great GMAT score, so I hope you retake!

Snuman,

I gave me test today and went through the same situation. I was consistently getting 570-600 over the past two weeks only to get rocked today with a dismal 470 score (36 Quant and 20 Verbal). I just got back and am still in shock. My verbal shocked me the most. I'm too ticked and the moment but will shed some light on this later.

P.S. My first name is Nauman too... don't know if our name's been cursed

Write down EVERYthing you can remember about the test - timing, what went well, what threw you, question types or content areas that you felt were fine vs. those that you struggled with, stress levels, stamina / energy by the end, etc. Absolutely everything - just stream of consciousness. That will help you to figure out what happened. And that will help us to help you too.

When I took the GRE test there was an option to pay extra and get a complete review of all the questions asked, and also a complete breakdown of the questions I answered correctly and incorrectly. Why doesn't GMAT or Pearson VUE do the same thing. This would provide people like snuman and nislam at least something concrete to work with.

Just take the test in 3rd time. You will get much higher scores, I believe.
