Here if we combine both statemens

Taking minimum value of g= 1.613 and h= 1.988

g+h = 3.601 (which is > 3.6)

so C should be the answer. Please explain wt I am missing here.

**Statements combined:**

Inequalities can be ADDED TOGETHER.

Adding together 1.612 < g < 1.718 and 1.987 < h < 2.803, we get:

1.612 + 1.987 < g+h < 1.718 + 2.803

3.599 < g+h < 4.521.

If g+h = 3.5991, then the answer to the question stem is NO.

If g+h = 3.61, then the answer to the question stem is YES.

Since the answer is NO in the first case but YES in the second case, INSUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is E.

This DS question can be solved by TESTing VALUES.

We're asked if G+H > 3.6 This is a YES/NO question.

1) 1.612 < G < 1.718

Fact 1 tells us nothing about the value of H, so it's possible that G+H is greater than 3.6 (a YES answer), but it's also possible that G+H is not greater than 3.6 (a NO answer).

Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT

2) 1.987 < H < 2.803

Fact 2 tells us nothing about the value of G, so it's possible that G+H is greater than 3.6 (a YES answer), but it's also possible that G+H is not greater than 3.6 (a NO answer).

Fact 2 is INSUFFICIENT

Combined, we know...

1.612 < G < 1.718

1.987 < H < 2.803

IF...

G = 1.6121

H = 1.9871

G+H = 3.5992 and the answer to the question is NO

IF...

G = 1.7

H = 2.8

G+H = 4.5 and the answer to the question is YES

Combined, INSUFFICIENT

Final Answer: E

Don't feel too bad. This is a very common mistake on this problem in the Veritas Prep GMAT Question Bank. More than 2,500 students have attempted this question, and nearly half have incorrectly picked C!eitijan wrote: Here if we combine both statemens
