integrated reasoning question

by lj88 » Tue Mar 05, 2013 11:04 pm
This is a question from the integrated reasoning section..

The table below gives information on the total inventory in 2010 and the total items sold by an international furniture manufacturer over a 3-year period, from 2008 through 2010. The 19 furniture items were included in the table because they fall among the top 25 items produced by the company in terms of both total inventory and total items sold. In addition to listing the total inventory and total number sold for each furniture type, the table also gives the percent increase or decrease over the 2009 inventory and 2005-2007 sales numbers and the rank of each furniture type for total inventory and total items sold.

Exactly 50% of the furniture items that experienced a decrease in both total inventory and total items sold are red mahogany.
A) True
B) False

OA: True

Why is the answer true? I noted that 6 items experienced decreases in both inventory and items sold and 3 of them were red mahogany.

Thank you!

Because 3 is exactly 50% of 6.

oops. i meant to write the OA is FALSE.
sorry about that.

the answer said false because it had counted the decrease in total inventory and total items separately. do you know why you have to count them separately? it was my understanding that the question wanted to you find the items that experienced a decrease in both categories.

thank you for your help!
