inference

Analyst: Creative professionals, such as clothing designers, graphic designers, and decorators, often have very poor managerial skills and do not succeed when they try to run their own businesses. In fact, most of these creative types are less skilled in business than is the average white-collar professional who does not work in a creative field. Generally, creative talent and business acumen rarely go hand in hand.

If the analyst's argument is taken as true, which of the following statements can properly be concluded?

No successful businesspeople are creative.
Some creative types are not less skilled at business than is the average white-collar worker who is not creative.
Creativity precludes success in business.
Any white-collar worker who is not creative is more successful in business than any creative professional.
Business is not a creative endeavor.

Incorrect : This is not mentioned in the stimulus

Some creative types are not less skilled at business than is the average white-collar worker who is not creative.
Correct : This answer choice paraphrases what is mentioned in the passage above.

Creativity precludes success in business.
Incorrect : same as A

Any white-collar worker who is not creative is more successful in business than any creative professional.
Incorrect : We cannot infer this from the passage above

Business is not a creative endeavor.
Incorrect : same as A

A - It does not compare creativity with business skills rather only mentions that creative ppl lack managerial and business skills. Whether creativity is the cause for it is unknown. Moreover, it does not apply to all of them only some of them and only more so when they try to run their own business.
B- Correct. Mentions that some and not all creative ppl are less skilled at business that is the avg white collar worker who is not creative. Correctly compared from the info given in the argument.
C - This is too strong a statement and lacks proper relation. We are comparing creative ppl such as.... with business and creativity per se
D - Again its too broad. It could be some but not any or all.
E - Out of scope.
OA pls

A) No successful businesspeople are creative. [ out of scope! new topic error. the stimulus does not talk about creativity of business ppl. it only talks about creative proffesionals and their business acumen. Eliminated!]

B)Some creative types are not less skilled at business than is the average white-collar worker who is not creative. [Bingo
! right answer. the stimulus says most of the creative professionals are less skilled in business when compared to white collar proffesionals. Some means atleast 1. 'most' implies more than half. so there must be atleast one person who is not less skilled than white collar professional. look out for probability indicators involved!]

C) Creativity precludes success in business. [ success in business is completely new topic. the stimulus no where talks about success of business with respect to creativity. Eliminated!]

D) Any white-collar worker who is not creative is more successful in business than any creative professional. [ comparison indicator. how successful a white collar professional sans creativity is, is not mentioned. infact a comparison based on success is not discussed in the stimulus. Eliminated!]

E) Business is not a creative endeavor.[ sub set super set error. can also be called as generalization error. the stimulus talks about creativity and business acumen. business acumen is different from business. This is not mentioned anywhere in the stimulus]

Tip for solving inference type problems:
common type of flaws introduced:
1. introducing a new topic
2. generalization error
3. comparison error
4. probability error
5. Negation error
Pay attention to these types of errors in the answer choices. it will be easy to skim the content and find the rite answer in a jiffy!

Hope this helps!
