Say Todd's weight before losing 12 pounds was x lbs and his brother's weight was y lbs.

Thus, x – 12 = 3y ---(1)

from "Together they weigh 280 pounds," we have x – 12 + y = 280 => x + y = 292---(2)

Thus, from (1) and (2), we have x = 222 lbs

Correct answer: D
