Answer: D
The number of pennies that were minted prior to 1982 is 150 x 0.4 = 60. The number of nickels that were minted prior to 1982 is 350 x 0.6 = 210, Therefore, the number of coins that were minted prior to 1982 is:
(60 + 210) / (150 + 350) x 100 = 270/500 x 100 = 270/5 = 54 percent of the total number of coins.
