If Chris worked 48 hours, then he was paid 40x dollars for first 40 hours and (8)(22) dollars for the next 8 hours
Since Chris earned $816, we can write: 40x + (8)(22) = 816
Simplify: 40x + 176 = 816
Subtract 176 from both sides: 40x = 640
Solve: x = 640/40 = 16

Answer: D

We can create the equation:

40x + 22(48 - 40) = 816

40x + 22(8) = 816

40x + 176 = 816

40x = 640

x = 16
