Say the probability that it will rain on any day = p, thus, the probability that it will NOT rain on any day = (1 - p)

We have to get the value of p*p*p = p^3.

=> Question rephrased: What's the value of p?

Let's take each statement one by one.

1) the probability of no rain thought out the first 2 days is 36%.

=> (1 - p)*(1 - p) = 0.36

(1 - p)^2 = (0.6)^2

(1 - p) = 0.6 => p =0.4. Sufficient.

2) the probability of the rain on the 3rd day is 40%.[/quote]

=> p = 0.4. Sufficient.

The correct answer: D

Hope this helps!
