Add 2 to both sides to get: x < 10
x + 6 > 4
Subtract 6 from both sides to get: x > -2
Rewrite as: -2 < x
COMBINE both inequalities to get: -2 < x < 10

Solution:
Since x - 2 < 8, then x < 10. Since x + 6 > 4, then x > -2. Therefore, -2 < x < 10.
