Hi everyone...its been a week i am studyin quant from OG and PR...i have done with all the concepts n imp formulas are on the sheet...and in the mind too... just doing OG problems now...i have done first 100 problem and have a hit rate of 80%...20% was just silly silly mistakes...i have done all these questions in timed condition and have approx taken 1 min on each question....

The lessons i learned are :

Concentration while doing problems
Carefully reading the questions

are the major ones...

Just wanted to know that in which category theese 100 questions turn up into...mid 500 or 600s...and just tell me from where i can practice more questions...as ill be finishin of with OG soon...

Quant questions

by mehravikas » Sat May 17, 2008 6:43 pm
Hi Guys,

I also plan to give GMAT in August. I have finished Kaplan and started with OG 11 quant section. I would like to know, how many Geomerty and probability questions should I expect in real GMAT exam. Is it a major portion of a quant section?

Those are my weakest areas. Also, please tell me, if Kaplan, OG11 and practice tests would be enough to get a good score (700 or above) in GMAT? Do I need to focus on other materials also?

geometry is considered to be a fundamental topic on the GMAT. you will definitely see at least several geometry questions on the exam. probability is higher difficult and, as such, you will only see if it you are doing fairly well on the exam. i saw zero probability questions on my exam.

the amount of material depends on how you study and what areas you need to focus on. there is a member who recently scored 770 using only the OG11 and the GMATPrep cats. you can see his post in "i just beat the gmat" forum. on the other hand, other members, such as myself, used as many resources as time allowed. i used OG11, PR Cracking the GMAT, Kaplan GMAT, Kaplan Math workbook, Kaplan 800, and OG V and OG M. i had months and months to prepare though.

It is hard for me to remember the formulas of geometry. Anytime when I solve geometry problems, I look again at the formulas.

Please show me how to remember and how to beat geometry problems/

Millions thanks.

Thanks, I think the problem with me is that I am expecting results a lot quicker. After going through the blogs on this site, and OG 11, I am getting a sense of what GMAT would be. Hopefully, after completing OG 11 things should be better. My focus is to basically write down the tips of each and every question which I am not able to solve.

I do not time myself for each question, I do it for a set of 5-7 questions. Also, I have read in several sites that first 10-12 questions in GMAT are tough and answering them correctly yields a higher score? How much of that is true?

Thanks heaps,

Vikas
