Profile Evaluation Please

by gabriel16 » Thu Jun 25, 2009 10:30 am
Good afternoon. I hope this e-mail finds you well. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind taking a look at my current profile?

GMAT: 670
GPA: 3.0 (BA in economics (minor in sociology) from a top liberal arts college)
Work Experience: 4 years working for a global financial services company
Other: I currently run a small side business on the weekends in conjunction with my full-time job during the week. I am also an avid athlete (triple all-state in high school and captain of my college basketball team).

Now that I am finished with my GMAT (seemingly) I am curious as to what type of schools you think I have a fighting chance gaining admittance to?

Thank you very much for all of you help. Keep up the good work.

Gabe

Hi, Gabe--

Thanks for your note. It sounds like you have an interesting profile (athletics, good work experience, etc.) with the possible exception of your GMAT score which is good but not great.

I would say that your best bet here might be to see if you can get your score up a few nudges (if you have time, etc.) and then you should have a shot at all but maybe the tippy-top three or four programs (bearing in mind that you have a chance at those, too, just not as good).

I don't mean to be avoiding your question or answering it in deliberately too general terms: I think the right approach is to say, "What range of programs am I a candidate for?" and "What do I want out of business school" and "What kind of program do I want" and see where they overlap. If you look at some of my other posts you can see where I go into considerable detail about things to consider when choosing which program is a good fit. (If you can't find it, just let me know and I'll send you the link.)

Does this help and/or answer your question?

Paxton
