Hi,

I have 7 years of work history, a 3.7 GPA from my Bachelors, and am about to take the GMAT. I am applying to Pepperdine. I only have studied for one week, I work 10-12 hour days sometimes and didn't get to study the way I wanted. Do you know if Pepperdine would accept me, even if my score was very very low?

Thanks

Hi and thanks for your question.

Your GPA is very good and with 7 years of work experience, you can probably demonstrate solid leadership and increasing scope of responsibilities. Those factors can help offset a weak GMAT; remember that schools look at the whole application, not just one piece of it. That being said, Pepperdine's average GMAT score is mid-600s and 80% of its students score 580-710.

If your score is significantly lower than that range, you shouldn't lose hope. Make sure the rest of your application is as strong as it can be, then write the optional essay addressing your lower GMAT score. Don't make excuses like working hard and not having time to study, simply state that the score was lower than you expected and offer evidence of how it is not representative of your academic abilities.

Best of luck.

Bk610 -

Thanks for your questions.

The GMAT score is just one facet of your application. So, while 80% of Pepperdine's students score between 580-710, you can gain admittance with a score below 580. You must show the other angles of your application (professional trajectory, leadership skills, recommendations, community activities) in their absolute best light.

Good luck to you,
Jennifer
