Should I apply in Round 1 or Round 2. Please see my list of colleges and back ground below.

I appeared for GMAT on 27th of September and scored a measly 620!!!!!! . I was confident and was getting 670 on MGMAT and about the same on Gmat prep Test 1 and Test 2.

This was my second attempt. The first time I got a 590 and got admitted to Washington University in St louis, but could not join the college and had to defer my admission to Spring. Then I moved to california and had to give up my seat.
This time I decided to take the GMAt again.

I gave all the test on Knewton, MGMAT and GMAT PREP(4 times in last 2 weeks). I was hoping to get a score around 660, but verbal got me bad. I got Maths- 48 and V - 27. I had to rush through around 4-5 questions and got an 1 RC pretty late in the game. It was the biggest RC with 4 big paragraphs, and had around 4-5 questions. I think that's what got me and the down ward trend started.

3 months wasted!!!! I don't have the energy or time to retake the test. Too dejected and feel like kicking myself and everything looks like falling apart. I was targeting the following schools:

IESE
Darden
ESADE
Duke
Carnegie Mellon
Emory -- Not sure about it
UNC Chapel Hill - Kenan flalger
Notre Damn
Mccombs
Indiana university

I guess I will take my chances. I work on my application and reccos. I have a very strong list of Extra curricular activities, 2 small but failed attempt at business model that I tried while I was studying. A GPA of 3.5 in Engg- Computer science and 6.5 yrs of work experience in IT industry.

When I look at half of the college on my list, they seem a long shot to me. I have lost the enthu... to work on my application now.

Too frustrated -- Dinesh

Hi,

How's your IESE application? I also got a 620 on the GMAT and that didn't stop me from applying to IESE. I was already interviewed via video conference and they told me to wait until the first week of December for their decision.

I looked for a professional video conference facility in my area. The prices are very steep but it's a good investment. I initially thought that Skype would suffice but I wanted to make a good impression so I paid around USD 200 per hour just for the professional VC. The interview was awesome! I couldn't have imagined a better interview. Most of the questions were really personal in nature. Just prepare your answers and you'll be fine. Just don't memorize them so you won't look scripted. I prepared note cards but didn't actually use them during the interview.

Only one person from the admissions committee interviewed me. :)

So Asian, when did you schedule your VC with IESE?

Hope this helps!

hey thanks for the reply...wow 200$/hr..that looks steep man, almost the price of a univ application !

I'm happy for you that it went well :)....how long did the whole thing lasted?.Were there any questions related to the GMAT score as such? or there were really specific questions or general 'tell us about yourself types?'

Hi Aslan,

The interview lasted for exactly an hour. The interviewer had to remind me that we only had one minute left for my questions. So we finished on the dot!

Nope, there weren't any questions relating to my GMAT score (which is way way at the bottom of the schools 80% range) and any of my grades in college. Just plain questions on my personality. I guess I already addressed my low GMAT score in a separate dedicated essay.

I was actually expecting a question like "Describe yourself" or "Tell us about yourself" which I have already prepared a good 5-minute response to. But nada. There was one though - "Tell us what you do in your free time".

How come you're not applying to IESE? Are you applying to any European school?

lolz.."what do you do in your free time?"..thats delightful. :).....usually this part is handed over to students in B-schools.

How did you manage to address the GMAT in a seperate essay sheet?.Is it mentioned in the applications to use extra sheets?.I should look into IESE btw, since INSEAD and LBS look way above the head these days. :/

Most of the essays I looked into had very short questions like really impersonal ones to answer in 600 words only (the length of an RC passage so to say) e.g"describe one important achievement in team leadership skills?" (only one?!?!)..Or "what is your biggest weakness?"...:(.....not really good questions to tell about one self.

The 6th essay question for IESE begins with something like "I wish the AdCom asked me...". Since my weakness in my application is my relatively low GMAT score, I decided to talk about that.

I think business schools really test us how we can thoroughly answer their questions in a very concise manner. It's even more difficult in HKUST where you really can't go over the character limit since you have to input your essay in a text box (with a "characters remaining" note) unlike other application websites that you can upload your word file.

Were you already interviewed by your choice schools?

@aicuevas:

Oh wow man congratulations!!!!... really I'm very very happy here!..

come to think of it..some day back I was actually thinking that what happened with that dude who got interviewed from IESE...maybe i should give IESE a try or not??...

but here you are celebrating and removing all my thoughts...way to go!...I may also be applying there.:)

Now, If you do have some time for a debrief on the 'admit success stories' will really help everyone here

congratz again and spend some relaxing time now!
