MLIC test prep.

by debohaldar » Wed Nov 07, 2007 3:12 am
Hey folks ,

Does anyone have experience with this test company ? They made
some pretty big claims on their website downgrading major players
like Veritas and MGMAT.

cheers,

Never heard of them, and I don't really trust them based on what I've read on their website.

I recommend Manhattan GMAT--as a member you can take their classes for 10% off. Good luck!

Yes, I've made the unfortunate choice of signing up with them. I signed up for the online course and it was a waste of money. It just consisted of them sending me questions and then the answers to the questions. They did not reply to all my emails on questions I had and even when they did, their explanations were curt and unclear. I've sent them a few of my AWA essays for review. It's been more than a month and I have yet to receive feedback on my essays. Their promised telephonic review session just consisted of us going through about 5 randomly selected questions and some guy yelling down the phone at me when I did not know the answer. For my last telephonic review session, I actually did not pick up the phone because I didn't think it would help me at all.

HOWEVER, to be fair, they have helped me in my overall prep in the following ways:

1) Discipline - They send you deadlines by which to complete the work which is good if you are not very disciplined like myself. They expect to you complete something like 80 questions a week. I completed more questions than I would have completed if studying by myself. You must also finish all their assignments to be eligible for their minimum score guarantee.

2) Study Materials - Their study materials are very very comprehensive and they offer a lot of useful techniques. They start you off on hard questions straight away...which was discouraging for me at first as they seemed impossible to do..however, in retrospect, this has really helped me..even the hard questions in OG seemed fairly easy when I got to it. The answer explanations to their questions are also fantastic.

Do note that their study materials are extremely hard to read..font-wise. They squeeze in plenty of words into a page and for some reason, a lot of their words are typed in capital letters. While this may seem like a small issue, it actually makes it very hard to read after about 3 pages or so.

In short, I would recommend that if you are starting to prepare for the GMAT from scratch and would like some good prep materials, their prep materials are excellent. I think you can purchase them seperately. But DO NOT sign up for their class.

Thanks for the info ssy.

It seems like a good place to get study material for hard questions (
esp at $79)but the online course would be a waste of money.

cheers,
Deb.

MLIC online prep for Gmat

by beammeup » Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:21 am
I agree with Deb that the best benefit of MLI's prep is the discipline and the structure it creates. I took their online course and was greatly helped. They have virtual review sessions in which me and about 8 others participated on weekend nights. There were interactive lectures, and assignment reviews in groups. It was very instructive and beneficial. Their training materials are such that some of the problems I worked on were very similar to the ones I got on the test. I agree that the study materials have annoying fonts showing that the edits were made using different versions of Word or PDF but one cannot miss the forest for the trees. MLIC prep worked for me. -- Scott

As someone who works for Veritas Prep, I have lots of opinions re: MLIC and the claims they post on their site (especially the ones about Veritas Prep). PM if you need to know more...
