Hi All
.
Let me tell you guys about my background first.

I am an Indian student graduated from one of the most reputed engineering school in India. I came across GMAT couple of year back and was pretty confident of doing best.
First Attempt: 12th Nov 2008 ( Hardly prepared and underestimated the GMAT)
Result: Disastrous
Score : 570 (Q48, V19)

Meanwhile I got wonderful job opportunity which involved travel to Australia and China. So I took that and somehow tried to forget about the experience of GMAT as a bad dream. Though MBA was always there on back of my Mind and so was determination to beat the GMAT. Came back to India, couple of month back and decided to give it another shot at GMAT.
This time more seriously and with more preparation. I was infact so serious about GMAT that I could have even left the job if my boss would not have been cooperate enough to grant me leave for 8 weeks. But, I must say, it was really nice of him to be so patient with me and grant me the leave for 8 weeks.

And THEN STARTED THE GMAT PREPARATION JOURNEY. I knew, Quant is my strongest area. I also knew that, being a non native speaker and being from one of the most rural area in India verbal was no less than a threat for me. So I decided to spend 80% of the preparation time on verbal.

Part I : Fix the source of preparation:
Everyone on this forum rates MGMAT SC and Powerscore CR Bible so highly that I decided to study these 2 books rigorously. I took notes of every single chapter, revised them on regular basis so that I can remember the patterns. (I did not study them during my first attempt preparation as I was totally Kaplan and OG centric during my first attempt).

I finished these books in first 2 weeks of my preparation and soon I started hitting the OG 10. Following is the list of source I prepared from.

OG10
OG-Paper based test
OG12
OG-Verbal and Quant
MGMAT SC
Powerscore SC
Kaplan Test (4)
MGMAT Test (consistantly scored around 690 in all 6 test)
Princeton Review Test 690
Gmat Prep 1 - 640
Gmat Prep 2 - 690
Gmat Prep 1 (Repeat 1) - 740
Gmat Prep 2 Rep[eat 2) - 730

Along with this I maintained the error log as well so that I can go back the particular problem in which I was struggling or I was slow.

After all this preparation I was pretty confident of scoring in 690 regions.

THE D DAY:

I am kind of morning person from my childhood. Love to wake up early in the morning and feel the morning breeze. I decided to book my appointment at 9:30PM. (Last time I took the appointment at 1:30 AM and by the timer I start my test I was completely exhausted)

Reached the test center at 8:30AM and saw few nervous faces of people who came to give GMAT. I was very confident this time around. I knew my limits and I was expecting the same.

I started with AWA (I prepared the templates of AWA a week before the exam) Both the section in AWA went nicely.

Then comes the Quant: I started moving swiftly along with each question. I was so fast in MGMAT quant that I can able to solve them in 70 minutes. I decided to go slow with quant section on real GMAT and doublke ckeck the first 10 question before confirming the answer since I knew these are the question which will set my benchmark. Finished the 36 question in 74minutes 50 second. I skimmed the last question for 3 second, it was a nice easy % question but I was scared, I knew if I could not complete the questions, penalty will be severe. I decided to click any of the 5 answers and then probably start thinking about the question. I clicked option A (since my cursor was nearest to that option), immiediately after few second a message appeared "TIME FINISHED". I could not even get the time to confirm my answer. Man what a fish, I never ran out of time on quant section before. I was not aware if that particular question would have been counted on my real GMAT score or I would be penalized for not confirming the answers.

It remained on the back of my mind: ( I was thinking of worst case in quant because of that last question, so decided to concentrate on VERBAL even harder to cover the loss I had in quant)

Took 8 min brake had some chocolates so as to gain some energy.

Then started the Verbal Section:

First question: SC: Comparison I was 200% confident
Second Question SC: Subject Verb agreement I was 200% confident for this too
Third Question: SC: 3 liner SC with 2 of the line underlined. Have to read at least twice to make the sense out of the question, I was sweating. Unable to fix this sentence with any of the MGMAT rule. It was kind of pattern less. Took at least 3 minutes and then have to guess. Then I got 4 CR followed by another SC. Then come the real big deal: a lengthy passage of at least 55 line. I knew this passage will help me to increase my score. I was very much in control till this time. Passage reading took me 4 minutes. I tried to jot down few things from the passage so as to get gist of it. Got 3 questions on this passage. I was confident on 2 of them but have to guess 1. I was done with 11 questions and clock reading was "55". After this passage I lost the control, somehow I was unable to make sense out of any SC, Most of the time in all mock test I was able to recognize the pattern but these questions were kind of "came from out of the world". So have to read every question at least twice and thrice (and I guess this is where I lost my game) by the time I finish my 21st question. Clock reading was "28 minutes". Man I started sweating, I lost my all the confidence, I knew that there will be at least another couple of passages thrown at me and I was real short of time. To the worst, I was hit by monster passage, at least 70+ liner. I knew reading and comprehending the complete passage will take me at least 5 minutes and I may not even get the answers correctly. I was unable to make the sense out of first paragraph of the passage. I was ready for this kind of situation and my Plan B was to attack the question directly and look for the answer of that question in the passage. By this way I was getting 70% the question right in less than 2 minutes per question. But this passage was completely different. Most of the passages you get on MGMAT are easy and one can comprehend them in one reading. But this passage was completely different with many many loose and open threads in the first para which are being tied up in somewhere else in other para. HORRIBLE. I lost my confidence. There were 4 questions I could answer only 2 of the question confidently and have to guess on remaining 2. I wasted almost 8 minutes on this passage. (Man what a mess....never expected).
I had merely 20 minutes for next 15 questions. I am not a voracious reader. I felt like I lost my plot. All my hard work ruined and then I have to guess on may more questions since I was short of time. I wanted to make sure that I will try to justify the entire question. So I answer all of the remaining question without second thought. Got a small passage somewhere between 33rd and 37th question with 3 question. I was literally in tears at the end of the section. And finally the score appeared.
.
620 it was (Q50 and V23)

I knew during the test that, I was doing not doing good on Verbal but never thought that this bad was actually worst.

am speechless now...nowhere to go.....kind of humiliated by such a low score in verbal......i was expecting a score in 680 region. I dont know where to go from here. I feel like my dream of getting an MBA is shattering. I feel like all my hardwork has been completely wasted.
I may give another shot but the main issue is i am unable to understand where i am lacking. I was doing pretty welll in all the mock test whcih I gave.
Honestly....i am ...dont know what to make out of my score can someone please help me figure out where I am going wrong in my preparation and probably where should I start from???

Most important learning from GMAT:

It is very important for non native speaker to have a regular reading habits and exhaustive vocabulary to understand and comprehend the passages on real GMAT VERBAL

For verbal section, No test preparation source comes near to actual GMAT. Believe me.

Fast reading and comprehending matters a lot.
Everyone's suggestion is welcome ; Experts, please help me understand where should I start from????

It's difficult to assess your weakness just by reading few paragraphs. Have you tried posting your thought process to the questions listed in the verbal section, and see if it matches the opinions of others? That's how I would approach learning verbal if you have exhausted all the studying materials.
Yep.

GMAT Score:620

Dear Friend,

I took my GMAT on Oct 7th and my score was same : Q50 V23!!! total 620:(

I am confused with my score and I dont know what should I have been done?my gmat prep scores were up to 720 at the 2 weeks before the exam.

I studied OG 12 and OG verbal and I answered Verbal questions of each book 4 times!!!!but the real GMAT verbal questions.

are not similar to those of OG books and GMAT prep. The real GMAT questions are very harder than OG verbal ones

(especially RC!!!) two reading passages on the exam were too long and you never see such samples in GMAT prep and OG.

I think test creators are designing harder GMAT. you can ask every test taker to find it...

I am thinking about retake GMAT but with recent conditions there is no guarantee to take a higher score . I may reach

between 580 and 700 in second attempt!!!!Additionally, there is not any GMAT test center in IRAN. Iranian test takers

should travel to other countries to do it:(

Answer selected for a question is considered as (wrong idiom but wont appear in the future GMAT exams) answered even if you dont confirm your answer...I read this in one of the Eric's posts...So, you answered all questions for Quant...
There is no penalty for you of not completing Quant...As is reflected with a score of 50 in quant...
