GMAT Score 610

by sethiharshal » Wed Oct 16, 2013 3:57 am
Hello!

I took GMAT today and scored 610 (Q51, V20). I scored in the range of 28-35 in verbal section in the various mock tests that i took. But in GMAT, I could hardly score 20.
I have a work-ex of more than 4 years in Manufacturing Industry. Can somebody guide me if I should start applying in universities or give it another attempt?
I want to know one more thing here: do I stand a chance to get admission in a good university with this score?

Thanks!

Hi sethiharshal,
I think it is important that you retake the GMAT with proper emphasis on Verbal as you are in the elite category in Maths already. So why not wor for a few weeks on Verbal and then come up with something like a 70-100 more points , thereby , increasing manyfold your chances into a great BSchool. And more encouragingly, CR needs a mathematical bent of mind , which you have immense, as your Quant score suggests. Same for SC, all you need to know atleast to get a respectable 35/36 is to nicely master the few tested rules. This would ensure you have a gallant score, making youi much much more competetive. I would not have suggested if you were average in Quants;
but, with a Q51, man, you need to get the verbal in place, and you should be golden... and I mean really Golden. You are just almost there. So give Retake a thought.

Hi sethiharshal,

If you want to try to assess if your GMAT score is competitive enough for a particular school, then you need to put together a list of schools and do some research. You mention "a good university", but that's a remarkably vague statement. The short answer is that a 610 is probably not a high enough score, but the application process for most schools is 6 or 7 pieces (some schools do interviews, some don't) and if the rest of your application is amazing, then your GMAT score becomes less relevant.

If you have questions about specific schools, I'd suggest that you post in the Admissions Consultant Forum (on this Site). You'll likely get some direct answers to your questions there.

In the event that you choose to retest (or are advised to), then feel free to email me directly. I can offer some suggestions as needed.
