Tom and linda walk indefnitely so after some point in time they both wuld have travelled equal distances and from that point froward tom will travel more distance than linda at any given point in time ...Cybermusings wrote:MGMAT Question...Please post question with detailed explanations
... the q asks to find the differnce between the time that tom takes to cover half the distance covered by linda at any point and the time taken by tom to cover twice the distance that linda has covered at any given point in time ....
when tom starts linda has already covered 2 kilometers ... let the time taken by tom to cover 1/2 the distance covered by linda be "x" hours ....
So we have ... the distance covered by tom is 6x( distance = speed * time ... over here speed = 6 miles / hour and time is x hours) and the distance covered by linda is 2+2x ... but we know that at x hrs tom will have covered half the diatnce that linda covered ... so 6x= (2+2x)/2 ... 10x=2 ... that is x = 1/5 hrs .. that is 12 minutes .. so we have that tom covers half the distance covered by linda in 12 minutes ...
in the same way let the time taken by tom to cover twice the distance covered by linda be "y" hrs ...
so we have 6y= 2(2+2y) ... that is 2y=4 ... y = 2 hrs that is 120 minutes ...
the q asks for the differnce between x and y which is 108 minutes .. which shuld be the answer ... hope this helps ..

Yep. 108 min is what I'm getting as well
For 1/2 distance --
(2 + 2t1) * 0.5 = 6t1
t1 = 1/5
For 2x distance --
(2+2t2) * 2 = 6t2
t2 = 2
t2 - t1 = 2 - 1/5 = 9/5*60 = 108 min
For 1/2 distance --
(2 + 2t1) * 0.5 = 6t1
t1 = 1/5
For 2x distance --
(2+2t2) * 2 = 6t2
t2 = 2
t2 - t1 = 2 - 1/5 = 9/5*60 = 108 min
