Hi,
Please review and rate my essay for Analysis of an argument on the below subject:
-----------------------------
Costs have begun dropping for several types of equipment currently used to convert solar energy into electricity. Moreover, some exciting new technologies for converting solar energy are now being researched and developed. Hence we can expect that solar energy will soon become more cost efficient and attractive than coal or oil as a source of electrical power. We should, therefore, encourage investment in Solario, a new manufacturer of solar-powered products. After all, Solario's chief executive was once on the financial planning team for Ready-to-Ware, a software engineering firm that has shown remarkable growth since its recent incorporation
-----------------------------
The argument claims that investment in Solario will be a prudent step as equipment costs for converting solar energy into electricity has been coming down, and there are new technologies being researched and developed in this field. While deciding on this investment, the argument takes support of the claim that Solario's chief executive is a very able person who had once been part of the financial planning team for a remarkably growing software engineering firm, Ready-to-ware. In my opinion, the argument has couple of flaws.
First, argument is falsely assuming that technologies based solar energy are commercially viable on a large scale and it will replace oil and coal as a source of power. It is of course true that there has been a significant improvement in the technologies available for converting solar energy into electricity, but they are still not commercially viable on a large scale. The solar-powered technologies are currently catering to the few individual household consumers or very small operatives. Hence, it is unwise to think that solar-powered technology is soon to replace century old oil and coal powered technologies upon which current industries, transportation and economies depends. Unless production, marketing and sales happen on an economical industrial scale it is difficult to generate significant profits out of the investments made.
Second, argument is also falsely assuming that a stint of the Solario's chief executive as a member of financial planning team at Ready-to-Ware is enough to drive the success story of Solario too. As Ready-to-ware is a software engineering firm and Solario is a solar-powered products manufacturing company, they are completely different sectors altogether. Having successful experience in a particular sector does not make a person a natural champion in another in another sector too. It requires a considerable experience of an industry and experience at a position to prove oneself eligible for posts such as Chief executive. The argument doesn't provide any information regarding the experience of Solario's chief executive in energy sector. Hence, it is again difficult to base investment on the lack of this information.
In sum, claims in the argument for the investment in Solario are not well supported. Argument must provide details of the products that solario manufactures so that it can be determined whether they are commercial or not. Also, regarding the current chief executive of Solario argument must provide more information about the industry, career experience of the current incumbent to judge his or her ability to drive Solario's business successfully.
