hence A/C/E remains. Also a verb is required after "but" for proper comparison. C/E remains. now the sentence says the phenomenon is still going on i.e. present tense hence C.

B - Usage of And
C - Correct.
D - Usage of And
E - 'did' does not go with 'Soared'. You have to use the helping verb which makes sense with the main verb of first part.
