distinct points A, B, C , and D

distinct points A, B, C , and D

If distinct points A, B, C , and D form a right triangle ABC with a height BD , what is the value of AB times BC ?

1) AB=6
2) The product of the non-hypotenuse sides is equal to 24

right triangle ABC with a height BD. This information tells us that the right angle is at B. This is because if the right angle is at A or C, then BD cannot be the height. The Line from B to the right angle will itself be the height.

So the only way a distinct point D can become the height is if the right angle is at B.

1) Not sufficient. AB is given but no BC.
2) Product of two non hyp sides: angle is at B. So non hyp sides are AB and BC. Sufficient.
