From Kaplan's GMAT 800, '08-'09 Edition:
Standard police procedure requires that an officer interview witnesses separately rather than together.
(a) Standard police procedure requires that an officer interview witnesses separately rather than together
(b) A requirement, according to standard police procedure, is that an officer interview witness separately rather than interviewing them together
(c) Standard police procedure requires an officer to interview witnesses separately rather than to interview them together
(d) It is required in standard police procedure that an officer interviews witnesses separately, not together
(e) Standard police procedure requires that an officer interviews witnesses separately rather than together
When is it an ellipse, when is it not? When is it parallel, when is it not? I am totally flummoxed...
OA: A

Dont know anything about the mentioned ellipse but I'd say that this is a sentence that requires the use of the subjunctive form (compared to the other topic). --> A.

yes 'A' it is - hail to the subjunctive form.
I didn't know till I read it on the other topic that a verb immediately followed by 'that' requires the subjunctive form.
Thanks for posting this question - great exercise.

had the sames exact question,, isn't the officer doing the interview? so shouldn't it be singular?pbanavara wrote:Why not E ? Shouldn't it be 'Officer interviews'
OR
Is it that interviews is referring to the witnesses as the subject rather than the officer ?

Because it's subjunctive mood, and therefore the second verb, which in this case is the verb interview, must be first person-singular-present form (some say infinitive form without the "to").

A for me too..
requires that <- shows the sentence is subjunctive
With a subjunctive " Infinitives are used.. But without a TO "
eg : to action, to resolve etc...will change to ..... action , resolve
