"There is only one definition of success-to be able to spend your life in your own way."
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this definition of success? Support your position by using reasons and examples from your reading, your own experience, or your observation of others.
The speaker asserts that the only definition of success is to be able to spend your life in your own way. In my view, there are different definitions of success and success cannot be simply defined by the way you live your life. In this discussion, I shall present my observations and examples that support my point of view.
The main reason for my view is that if speaker's statement is considered correct then all the people who are not able to live life in their way would be regarded as biggest failures. The chief problem with the speaker's statement is that it ignores alternate possibilities or definitions of success. At the end of the day, success is merely a perception. Also the speaker's statement runs contrary to the common sense as there are endless notable personalities in this world who found success in the field that they didn't initially planned for themselves.
Another reason for my view is that success cannot be considered freedom of living your life on your own terms. Success is measured in terms of how successful you are in what you do. For most people success is related to achievement. The problem with the speaker's statement is that it repudiates the basic institution of success. The more you achieve, the more successful you are considered.
In sum, the speaker's assertion on the definition seems to be rather controversial one. and far too limiting. I think most people will agree that success is the attainment of your goals.
