1. 100 - x > x-75
2. X>85

A B C D E

Hi my head is swimming with the explanation. Could someone provide me a detailed explanation on this D.S. question especially
Statement number 1. I just don't understand the answer analysis given from the textbook. Thank you so much!

The number which is exactly midway between 75 and 100 is (100 + 75)/2 = 175/2 = 87.5
So, if x is less than 87.5, it is closer to 75 than it is to 100 and vice versa.

Statement 1 : 100 - x > x - 75
So, 100 + 75 > 2x
So, x < 175/2

Sufficient

Statement 2 : x > 85
If x = 87 < 87.5 ---> YES
If x = 88 > 87.5 ---> NO

Not sufficient

Answer : A

Thank you! your answer approach is very straightforward better than my textbook.
I completely understand Statement 1 and should have simplified and solve for "x" first.
