Welcome to the forum. Eric would definitely reply to your questions but let me add my thoughts..

To start of you could have your husband look at the resources on this forum. The link is as below:

https://www.beatthegmat.com/wiki/doku.ph ... _resources

Please do visit the link https://beatthegmat.blocked/ (listed in the resources).

Try to understand the differenct sections of the exam, the question types in each section, the scoring mechanism etc. You definitely need to procure Official Guide for GMAT for prep.

As to whether you can do self study or require classes depends on your current capabilities and time available to prepare. I think once you get a good understanding of the exam, you will be able to take this decision easily.

English not being a native language is not a great handicap.

Coming to describe this forum- the forum has sections for each of the question area. You could browse through them for additional practice questions. You could also post your questions for explanations. Please do post the question source and answer options. There are separate forums for GMAT prep strategy and GMAT success stories (https://www.beatthegmat.com/viewforum.php?f=15) which would be very useful to you.

I hope my post takes you one step forward :D
