Which of the following sentence is correct?

1.The ball fell between three fielders
2.The ball fell among three fielders.
3. The ball fell in between the three fielders.

Please explain as to why one is correct and others are wrong?

Between is used when we deal with 2 entities
Among is used when dealing with more than 2 entities
So, 1 is wrong.
1.The ball fell between three fielders

(2) is wrong because of wrong construction. I prefer to say, the balls were distributed among three fielders.
2.The ball fell among three fielders.

3. The ball fell in between the three fielders.
This is correct.

Hope this helps
