How to work on Sentence Correction?

by karandgr8 » Mon Sep 16, 2013 11:17 pm
Hi,

I have been studying Sc for the last 1 month. I am referring to Manhattan SC Guide. After 20 days of starting my preparations I had completed GMAT Review SC section, Manhattan SC Guide and then I gave my first mock. I scored 640 (48 Q, 34 V). My problem area is SC.

Though I've gone through Manhattan Sentence Correction Guide twice, I still am stuck up with so many rules.

Is there a better way to prepare SC?
I feel that revising theory is the way out for mastering SC.
Kindly help me out with this.

Thanking You so much in advance.

Regards-
Karan

Hello karandgr8. Good to hear that you're taking your GMAT study seriously. The sentence correction portion of the GMAT measures your ability to identify a sentence choice that is grammatically correct and demonstrates clear and concise writing. In standard written English, the active voice is often the preferred expression, but there is no one rule that would guide what would be correct in every situation. In the case of sentence correction, I would look carefully at each choice before determining the best option. While active voice is one factor you should consider, it is by no means the only way of determining the correct choice.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest that you download the free GMAT Prep software. It comes with two practice exams. Many students find it useful to take a practice exam in order to identify strengths and weaknesses before mapping out a study plan. All the very bst with your GMAT!
