GPA ISSUE

by sanchitsharma3 » Thu Feb 25, 2010 6:58 am
HI there

I am Sanchit Sharma from INDIA. I have finished my graduation in BBS ( Bachelor in Bushiness Studies ) from SHAHEED SUKHDEV COLLEGE OF BUSINESS STUDIES ( DELHI UNIVERSITY), The BEST under grad b-school in the country, but my issue is in such a competitive environment I have amassed 63% in my graduation (Highst was 75%). In my course there is percentage system not GPA so if i convert it to GPA its coming around 1, which I feel is not the correct indicator because the level of competition is tough and checking is strict.

Now please throw some light on how can I convey my case to universities?? and will they understand it?? also tell me is it better to do your graduation in easier courses from low level college to get good marks and good GPA???

please help

Thanking you in ADVANCE

WITH WARM REGARDS

Hello,

MBA adcoms see many, many applicants who did their undergrad in Indian universities so they are very familiar with and understand the Indian university grading system. You don't have to worry about that; they won't correlate your 63% directly with that number in a US university.

Some adcoms will want you to use a service to translate your transcript to a US scale, others won't, so check with each adcom to see how they want to handle non-US transcripts. This is just the practical dimension, not related to their actual understanding of the grading.

Finally, you can write a succinct paragraph in an optional essay explaining in your own words how your percentage scales within the Indian system. I don't think it's necessary, but it can't hurt.

The adcoms look at the applications holistically, including the rigor of the undergrad university, so getting higher grades in a less rigorous program won't necessarily be helpful.
