Although early soap operas were first aired on evening radio in the 1920s, they had moved to the daytime hours of the 1930s when the evening schedule became crowded with comedians and variety shows.
(A) were first aired on evening radio in the 1920s, they had moved to the daytime hours of the 1930s
(B) were first aired on evening radio in the 1920s, they were moved to the daytime hours in the 1930s
(C) were aired first on evening radio in the 1920s, moving to the daytime hours in the 1930s
(D) were aired first in the evening on 1920s radio, they moved to the daytime hours of the 1930s
(E) aired on evening radio first in the 1920s, they were moved to the 1930s in the daytime hours
Answer is B
I got this one correct when I compared with A, B, D, and E not only in terms of parallelism but also in terms of meaning, but I got confused after comparing with C. I am not sure whether my elimination method for C is correct or not.
C says "Soap operas moving to the daytime hours in the 1930's" (Can "Soap operas move to daytime hours by themselves" ? )
I eliminated C because I thought "Soap operas cannot move to daytime hours by themselves and they have to be moved by someone else"
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Experts, please advice.
Thanks & Regards
Sachin

you are correct in your reasoning of eliminating option C, it actually changes the meaning........sachin_yadav wrote:Although early soap operas were first aired on evening radio in the 1920s, they had moved to the daytime hours of the 1930s when the evening schedule became crowded with comedians and variety shows.

also "aired first" and "first aired" are two completely different things, which again changees the meaning of the sentence
Although early soap operas were first aired on evening radio in the 1920's, they had moved to the daytime hours of the 1930's when the evening schedule became crowded with comedians and variety shows.
(A) were first aired on evening radio in the 1920's, they had moved to the daytime hours of the 1930's
had needs to be the first action as compared to the other or the latter hence this choice is wrong.
(B) were first aired on evening radio in the 1920's, they were moved to the daytime hours in the 1930's
This is a correct choice. Sleek and elegant.
(C) were aired first on evening radio in the 1920's, moving to the daytime hours in the 1930's
Although… 1920’s, moving – is a modifier and modifies the complete preceding clause. Hence this choice is incorrect.
(D) were aired first in the evening on 1920's radio, they moved to the daytime hours of the 1930's
They moved meaning that Soap Operas had the ability to move which is incorrect.
(E) aired on evening radio first in the 1920's, they were moved to the 1930's in the daytime hours
This is a run on sentence and is missing a verb.
