Alison, the company CEO, wants to schedule a one-hour meeting on Monday for herself and three other managers, Bob, Colleen, and David. Is there a one-hour period on Monday available to all four people?

1) On Monday, Bob has an open period from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and David has an open period from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This statement tells us that Bob and David both have an hour available from 2:00 to 3:00.

However, it does not tell us whether Alison and Colleen can meet then.

INSUFFICIENT

2) On Monday, Alison and Colleen have an open period from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This statement tells us that Alison and Colleen both could meet during any hour from 11:00 to 3:00.

However, it provides no information on Bob's or David's schedule.

(We have to be careful not to consider the information from Statement (1) when considering Statement (2) in order to avoid mistakenly deciding that Statement (2) is sufficient.)

INSUFFICIENT

Statements (1) and (2) combined

Using the combined statements, we see that all of the four managers can meet for an hour from 2:00 to 3:00.

SUFFICIENT

The correct answer is (C).
