About me:
Age: 30 years. 8 years of experience in management consulting for construction projects. BS Civil Engineering Georgia Institute of Technology.
I started preparing in November. Initially I used Princeton Review and Kaplan Verbal and Math workout books. I practiced with OG 11th edition. I took first test (Kaplan) in December 2009 and scored 600. The low score forced me reevaluate my preparation.
While searching for some guidance online, I found www.beatthegmat.com. I learned from posts in 'I Just Beat The GMAT!' section how impressed test takers were with Manhattan GMAT and Powerscore.
I ordered all Manhattan GMAT study guides and Powerscore CR book. I studied all MGMAT guides and Powerscore CR book during January. In February I went through GMAT OG questions and Manhattan GMAT online question banks. I started taking tests again in late February.
February 27- Kaplan CAT 2 630
February 28- MGMAT CAT 1 700
March 6- MGMAT CAT 2 730
March 7- GMAT Prep CAT 1 740
March 13-MGMAT CAT 3 720
March 14- MGMAT CAT 4 710
March 19- GMAT Prep CAT 2 740
March 20- Actual GMAT 740
I believe Kaplan GMAT Tests are not indicative of your actual aptitude. GMAT Test questions in general are a little more difficult than the questions on GMAT Prep. MGMAT is more intense and more difficult than the actual test.
I basically focused on my weaknesses in February and March. By end of January, I had figured out that probability and combinations / permutations were my weakest quantitative sections. My sister teaches Chartered Accountant classes in India and she knows the above topics inside out. She sent me some basic study material and it helped me a lot.
Sentence correction was my weakest point in Verbal. Credit for all the improvement I managed to achieve goes to Manhattan GMAT.
I have been a quite member of beat the gmat and I learned a lot from discussions here. I thank you all for doing a great job in helping people like me.

I had the question in mind.Giorgio wrote:Congratulations!
I wonder how Q48 and V 41 resulted in 740 total ? I've seen around many people scoring Q 49 V41 and getting 730...
Congrats on your achievement and thanks for sharing your experience.

i noticed that you have a pattern by practicing two consecutive test in two consecutive days. How did that work out for you? What did you do in between the tests?

Hi SuperDesi2100,
Thanks for the great debrief of your Preparation.
I have stategized to focus on my strength (Quant) first and have ben prparing for GMAT for past one month now.
As like you, I have also found that probability and permutations/combinations are my weaknesses. Can you please share the Study Materials you used for these areas?
Thanks & Regards,
