Help for NUS essays

by shalini0817 » Fri Jan 03, 2014 8:11 pm
Hi All,

I am in the process of preparing my essays for NUS and need some advice.

The essay question on short-term goal is 'We would like you to tell us about your post-MBA immediate career goals and how your professional experiences have prepared you to achieve these goals'.

I need help in understanding the structure of the essay. Should half of the essay talk about the work experience and be related to the other half about the short-term goals, or do we need to give more weightage to the goals part. Also, can i write the experience first and go on relating it to my short-term goal or does it need to be the other way round, as exactly asked in the essay.

Hi Shalini,

The structure of the essay can lean either way that you have described - be it work experience or short term goals to be written first. No matter which way you decide your flow to be, you've not managed to read between the lines of what the essay question is asking. Explicitly the question asks for your post MBA goals & relating your professional experience to these goals. Implicitly, the admission office wants you to tell them why a MBA with NUS can make that difference to achieve these post MBA goals that you'll not be able to achieve without the MBA. Hence your immediate post MBA goals have to be somewhat very audacious that a MBA is absolutely necessary. If you can achieve these goals with your professional experience till date, then you're telling them that the MBA doesn't matter.

Hope this helps you in thinking about your goals and relating it to the MBA more than your professional experience till date.

Good luck!

Best,
