In the mid-1920’s the Hawthorne Works of the Western Electric Company was the scene of an intensive series of experiments that would investigate changes in working conditions as to their effects on workers’ performance.
(A) that would investigate changes in working conditions as to their effects on workers’ performance
(B) investigating the effects that changes in working conditions would have on workers’ performance
(C) for investigating what are the effects in workers’ performance that changes in working conditions would cause
(D) that investigated changes in working conditions’ effects on workers’ performance
(E) to investigate what the effects changes in working conditions would have on workers’ performance

why not
A or D?
A is wrong with would for experiments that did happen

B is correct, "effects that changes in working conditions would have on workers’ performance "

D, is incorrect, "that investigated X Y", does not make sense, it should be X, and Y.

Meaning: Hawthorne works is probably a department in the Western electric company where an intensive series of experiments were carried out in the mid 1920s. The purpose of the experiments was to investigate the effects of changes in working condition of workers on their performance..

Hope it is clear to you now..

IMO B

a] as to their effects is unidomatic

b] perfect.. series of experiments requires the participle investigating.. that clearly gives info on the effects that were being investigated

c] multiple issues here.. scene for investigating .. doesnt make sense.. should be effects "on" instead of "in" redundant "what are"

d] & e] the underlined part is describing the scene and not the experiments.. so scene that investigated and scene to investigate portray a different meaning.. that the scene was investigating..
One love, one blood, one life. You got to do what you should.
