Overall, your profile is looking very good. Military candidates, especially those with as much leadership as you have tend to do quite well. Plus with a mix of sports and acting, you can put together an attractive and three dimensional profile. I would say at Wharton and Sloan you would be competitive and the rest competitive plus.

Focus really heavily on the uniqueness of your leadership experience, given the serious/exciting/importance of your leadership in the military context, and pull us out some beautiful stories, and you will do just fine!

Hi Varun when applying to top schools a score above 700 is desirable. Looking at Isb 2010 GMAT Mid 80% Range 670-760 with average score 709 . If you could either improve your gmat score or change the school list that would help you. The schools you mentioned seems bit stretch. You don't have a typical Indian it male profile your background is distinctive compared to other Indian candidates so use it to leverage your profile.

Varun best thing to do at the given stage is- check the previous class profile of the given schools to see the gmat score range. Other aspects of your profile seem good and differentiated so showcase it well . Please note that it's not just academics that determine your candidature but also beyond academics and your work exp that will be considered by ad com.
The best way to choose a B school is based on career goals. You need to see if the schools will help you realizing those goals. Apart from that factors like what the school specializes in, geography location including urban/rural factor, size of classes in school (big class or small class), alumni success rate. Also you need to keep in consideration what recruiters tend to come on campus. You can talk to alumni's and career center wings to know further the opportunities the school provides you.

I want to ask you that I have got 57 % in graduation i.e B.Com(Hons). I did graduation from delhi university and the highest % got by any student in this course does not exceed 72?%.I am a bit bothered about the gpa requirement of these schools. Please guide whether it really matters ?

OF course your GPA matters! And yes, yours is low. So first thing you gotta do it is find a good way to convert the grade (or have it done) second, you need to LET THEM KNOW things like the fact that the highest is 72%. Even with good grade conversions and having seen this a million times, Americans can;t help but think of their own 100% system, in which basically NOBODY gets less than a60 or even 70 (Grade inflation is totally outta hand) So you need to SHOW them (in an essay).

Hi Prasad,

The Application has a section that allows students to elaborate on anything that you feel is important for the admission committee to know while evaluating your candidature. It could be relating to academics or even your personal history. For example if undergrad scores were not that great-which is your case then please use this place wisely to explain that. You might need to prove to the admission committee that your GPA won't be an issue. If you can tell in your application about any extra classes or courses you undertook in the subjects that you did not do well. This would highlight your zeal to learn and improve and in turn improve your low GPA situation. Alos tell them about the highest score sso they kepe that in consideration.
