RC Tips

by money9111 » Tue May 04, 2010 8:35 pm
Hello All,

I will be taking the GMAT on Saturday @ 4pm. I know it seems late, but there's no way in the world that I would have been able to take it at 8am! Anyway, now that it's down to the wire I have scaled back my studies.

I'm just wondering if you guys have any tips for RC. Moreover if you have any insight as to how you recognize what the questions are asking, that'd be great too!

Thank you!
My goal is to make MBA applicants take onus over their process.

Hey Money,

An exciting week for you - given all that you've provided to the community here and all the work you've put in, no one deserves a 700+ score more than you do. I'm glad to hear that you're "tapering" your studies to stay fresh on test day, and I know that we'll all be pulling for you.

Since you asked about RC, it's actually pretty good timing. BTG just posted my second in a series of blog posts on Reading Comp strategy, and between the two posts and the comments field on the first (which is linked to today's) there are some strategies for reading and for a couple of specific question types that should give you some insight. Today's post is linked at: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/05/ ... ou-do-that

Good luck this week - remember that you've earned the right to be confident!

To me, RC is the easiest subject to go away from your game plan with. The clock is a huge factor here. Throughout the test we are always looking for ways to save time, so what happens is we will see an RC question and think we remember the topic addressed in the question well enough and then we will see an answer that will sound very familiar so we will pick it and move on, all in an attempt to save time. I think this is one of the biggest trap that the test makers set. I can't count how many times I've missed questions because of this. I think you just need to be disciplined with your process for RC and don't stray.
