Why You Should Get An Executive Mba

Post Sat Apr 23, 2016 4:39 pm
An Executive Master’s in Business Administration (EMBA) has become a very popular choice for recent business degree holders nowadays because of the tools that are learned and the prestige that comes with holding the degree. The main difference between a standard MBA and an Executive MBA is that the latter, is primarily designed to educate working executives, managers, entrepreneurs, and other business leaders. So why is it that you ought to get an executive MBA rather than a standard one if you already have five years of professional experience? Well, here are some reasons why:
Many employees who embark on an EMBA have been working already for 10 years or more and may have developed core skills, but only in a specific discipline. If you want to increase your breath of knowledge about business and improve your talents, an EMBA can help because as you will receive training in skills managerial skills and techniques, strategic thinking, critical analysis, ‘bigger picture’ understanding, better communication skills, and team building skills. Larry Murphy, Executive Director of Executive Education at Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business, stated that "Most of the participants in our executive MBA program have chosen breadth over depth.”
You will also get to develop yourself career-wise, as you secure qualifications that will help you move into job positions that you may have not gotten without an Executive MBA. Moreover, it will help you to develop a business plan and even create your own business so you can be your own boss. Research done by the Executive MBA Association Council show that EMBA graduates earn a salary bonus up to 16.8% more and 41% get promoted.
You have a chance to interact with a diverse group and receive different perspectives from people, as you’ll get to engage with different business practices. Public sector executives, heath professionals, and the like are also getting into Executive MBA classrooms and enrichening the experience. Such a mix, allows one to get a more worldly view in today’s global business arena.
In addition, you can develop important relationships that can really push your career by getting a chance to interact in a relevant manner with colleagues, professors, and teaching staff with great on-field experience by networking. If you are doing a part time Executive MBA as you are working, you will get a good chance to meet potential employers through internships that you will take, which may allow you to finally gain access to the excessive alumni network of the particular Executive MBA program you are taking.Alumni can be a great resource because they can give you first hand access to relevant information, thus giving you a better chance to garner the best opportunities.
It teaches you resilience because an Executive MBA is a very intense program that poses a challenge to many. In fact, students at University of Notre Dame’s, Mendoza School of Business say that many Executive MBA students lead very busy lives and do not have enough free time because they are often spending up to 17 to 23 hours per week preparing for their monthly three-day residency session. An Executive MBA, holds the level of prestige that it does because of what it takes to attain it. The program will test your personal and professional ability and with the right amount of effort and dedication, which means that it will eventually cause you to grow in both sectors.
