Focusing across several generations, Alex Haley wrote Roots, a novel explaining both his family history and the history of American bigotry.
A. Focusing across several generations
B. Centering around several generations
C. Living through several generations
D. With an eye on several generations
E. Telling of several generations
It seems to be confusing but "Telling of several generations" seems to be better.

I would definately confess,it would have tricked me
The construction telling of several generation sound ackward to me and if i hadnot know it was the answer ,i would have eliminated the answer as it sounds ackward.
I would have gone with C
Which doesnt seems to be gramatically incorrect...
Some question's answers depends upon perceiption of question writer i guess....esp in cases where both options are not gramatically wrong

Pure modifier issue, A & C, both are close..IMO Amayur c wrote:
A. Focusing across several generations :-->CORRECT: who focused?? Alex..so nothing wrong.
B. Centering around several generations :-->INCORRECT: who Centering???Alex..NOoo . It was novel that wan centering.
C. Living through several generations :-->INCORRECT: who Lived...Alex..Modifier is correct but logically doesn't fit in his context, as one would think, What living has to do with writing...
D. With an eye on several generations :-->INCORRECT: wrong use of 'with'
E. Telling of several generations :-->INCORRECT: who is telling?? Alex..I don't think so..his novel is telling of several things.

A cannot be write.. you cannot 'focus' on several generations.. focus on one point, focus on one thing.. not focussing on several things.. its not a focus thenmayur c wrote:24. Focusing across several generations,

Same for B.. 'Centering around' how can you center around something ?
C & D are awkward
E: hence correct choice
