Hi Guys,

I am new to the site and preparing for GMAT and particularly having trouble with SC portion.
Could some one please advice on what percentage question should be correct when attempting X number of question in SC ?

I am aiming for above 750 Score but till now my performance on OG 12 is 60% correct SC answers only.

Also any advice on improving will be gr8 too.
I am currently using MGMAT material and OG 12.

Tip for SC:
In the initial stages of GMAT preparation, do not look out for accuracy or hit-rate as far as SC section is concerned. I would suggest you to practice taking a 10 question set. Do not practice elimination strategy on these sets. While answering, take ample of time understanding the mistakes in each of the answer choices. Then try convincing yourself why one of the choice could be correct. After you are done with the set, search each question in BTG forum and cross check how you perceive grammar as compared to friends from BTG. Only then understand grammar by experts. Make notes of your findings. Walaah you a bit better then you were before at SC :). Aside from OG and MGMAT, bookmark https://www.beatthegmat.com/sentence-correction-f9.html and visit it everyday and see to that you dont have any unread posts in the first page.

Hi Macarora,

zaaash has given some really good tips. I think it is important to understand the wrong and right both answers. Because some times, we trust on ears and mark the answer accordingly rather than knowing the actual concept. This used to happen with me earlier. For SC, I can say that OG 12 and Verbal supplements are must. But before going there, one should have crystal clear concepts about the SC rules.
I can suggest you e-GMAT for SC. I have enrolled there and after going through all the concept files and practice problems, when I solved OG 12 for second time, my accuracy was improved and mainly I was clear with the concepts.

Hope you get your desired score in exam, Best Luck.

Thanks zaaash/shilps !

I started SC 10 days back and after learning the concepts went to OG for practice ...and as I told earlier I got 60% correct out of 140 total . I know this is not good for a good targeted score and hence want to improve it .

I think I got a feeling what I shld be doing to score thanks a lot for your replies.

I got one more Q for you ... I recently came across Grockit ... could you tell me if the question are close in approximety to GMAT ?how do you guys rate this site ?

I totally agree with Shilps that one should understand the SC concepts thoroughly instead of trusting our ears. Even I have completed the E-Gmat Sentence Correction Course and I must say it is an amazing course. Anyone who has enrolled even in the free trial would vouch for the fact that there is hardly any other test prep company which explains the SC concepts in such depth as does the E-gmat course. My SC accuracy rate has improved dramatically after finishing this course. Let me put it this way... E-mat Sentence Correction course is to SC what Powerscore CR Bible is to CR.

As for Grockit, I have taken a couple of trial games (i suppose thats what they call the quizzes). The questions are definitely good but nothing beats E-GMAT as far as explaining the concepts of SC is concerned.

hello i am also struggling on sentence correction. Getting about 50 percent of the questions from OG correct. I have used Mgmat sentence correction book but do not find them as good as their math books.

How can i get my hands on the Egmat sentence correction course?

Hey komal,

Its very timely that i SAW THIS Post.

I fully endorse your point. E-gmat is a fantastic application sofware that is focused /directed only for SC.as of now. The concepts are laid out in a structured pattern that makes me easy to navigate depending upon my requirements.

More Over, Komal If u see they have really hard questions in the L3 segments that increases the momentum for our prep.

e-gmat is certainly a MUST when one cruising thru the prep. Its gives realistic & holistic approach to GMAT.

The best of all is e-gmat does NOT confuse us with " grammar Technicalities" as far as non- native speakers are concerned.

Komal, I should say e-gmat has buttressed my fundae in SC. Thx e-gmat for all the support.

Hi Komal and Machoman, it is good to see your posts back to back. How are you guys?

@[email protected] - As Komal and Machoman said, e-gmat is really very good. Go through their concepts and then apply those concepts in all questions you solve. Their on line coaching is really very good.

Try E-GMAT first, go through the MGMAT book. Then I will highly recommend to go through 1000SC questions. I agree with lot of experts that few of the questions are really very bad, but believe me it is really very good practice.

Coming to your actual question what % should be correct. Why are you looking for that. Since you are aiming for 750 in that case I would say that you should aim 100% correct in SC.
