The West Indian manatee, a distant relative of the elephant, returned to the sea some 50 million years ago. These thousand-pound herbivores inhabit the warm coastal waters where Americans like to play. Despite conservation efforts, criminal penalties for harming these creatures, and an overabundance of SAVE THE MANATEE! bumper stickers, none of these animals can be considered safe.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the argument above?

1]Last year, several manatees were mysteriously killed by an unidentified toxin.
2]All manatees swim at depths that make them vulnerable to the blades of motorboat engines.
3]Most tourists are unaware of the ongoing efforts to save the manatee.
4]The population of manatees in the wild has dwindled to fewer than 2,500 animals.
5]Although dozens of manatee deaths are documented each year, many more deaths go unreported.

Issue: animals not safe

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the argument above?

1]Last year, several manatees were mysteriously killed by an unidentified toxin. - last yr animals killed...does not mean...they are unsafe now also
2]All manatees swim at depths that make them vulnerable to the blades of motorboat engines. correct (regualr habbit of animals....so despite criminal penalties/save the mantee compaign....animals bcoz of their own fault get killed[
3]Most tourists are unaware of the ongoing efforts to save the manatee. - wrong says nothing about why animals r unsafe
4]The population of manatees in the wild has dwindled to fewer than 2,500 animals. - wrong...just show severity of problem
5]Although dozens of manatee deaths are documented each year, many more deaths go unreported. - wrong ...just show the severity of problem

1]Last year, several manatees were mysteriously killed by an unidentified toxin. talking about last past so eliminated
2]All manatees swim at depths that make them vulnerable to the blades of motorboat engines. IMO correctly explains why they are not safe
3]Most tourists are unaware of the ongoing efforts to save the manatee. nothing to do with tourist irrelivant
4]The population of manatees in the wild has dwindled to fewer than 2,500 animals. not stating why they r not safe
5]Although dozens of manatee deaths are documented each year, many more deaths go unreported. again irrelivant

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the argument above?

1]Last year, several manatees were mysteriously killed by an unidentified toxin.
Incorrect : This does not help the argument that despite all the conservation efforts manatees are not considered safe.

2]All manatees swim at depths that make them vulnerable to the blades of motorboat engines.
Correct : This explains WHY they are not considered safe despite conservation efforts.

3]Most tourists are unaware of the ongoing efforts to save the manatee.
Incorrect : The argument above talks about conservation efforts in general. Awareness of conservation efforts is not limited to tourists only.

4]The population of manatees in the wild has dwindled to fewer than 2,500 animals.
Incorrect : It may support the quantitative data but does not help to support the argument that manatees are not considered safe despite conservation efforts.

5]Although dozens of manatee deaths are documented each year, many more deaths go unreported.
Incorrect : Does this help to support the argument that manatees are not safe? No..... Eliminated !!
