Waitlist and Acceptance Rates

by blondi8021 » Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:26 pm
Hi

I know this will vary by year and school, but do you have any insight or general guidance as to how many waitlisted candidates eventually get accepted (even past stats would be helpful)? I am particularly interested in Wharton and Kellogg, as I am waitlisted at those schools.

Much appreciation

Dear Blondi8021,

Thanks for your post!

As you correctly pointed out, waitlist odds vary a great deal from school to school and year to year. They also vary from candidate to candidate, as over-represented applicants on the waitlist may fair worse than those candidates with slightly more unique profiles. As such, it's really hard to offer much in the way of hard stats in this regard.

Having said that, at Clear Admit we've observed that candidates who make the waitlist in R1 at schools like Kellogg and Wharton often have odds of nearly 1 in 2 when it comes to getting in at some point before the end of the admissions cycle. For R2 waitlisters, the odds at these programs have typically diminished somewhat - to roughly 1 in 3. Of course, this is purely based on our experience guiding thousands of clients over the last eight years and on input from those members of our team who have served on adcoms at leading schools, but hopefully it's a start in terms of helping you to grasp where things stand for you.

Feel free to reach out to our team directly (by emailing [email protected]) if you are interested in working on your WL strategy with a counselor.

Best of luck,

Graham

Bump. WL by Kellogg this round. Any insights on if this is response is still relevant? (i.e. 1/3 or so?) Thanks!
