Hey
I will be having a gpa of 3 at the end of my btech from a reputed indian engineering institute. will a gmat of 750, with excellent sports & other extra curriculars (i write) achievements, and decent leadership evidence be enough? i plan to take up a few interesting summer interns over my next two hols, so i hope that'll help. Can i hope to get into a mid-range b-school? And wat about an MSc in management in US or europe? Wat can i realistically aspire for, and wat are my best options? THANKS... P.S: I am asking cos i want to know if preparing for CAT (entry into IIMs) in India might be a better option for me. I dont mind a MSc in management from a reasonable institute, if I can do a real good MBA later
early career, lowish gpa n high gmat- Advice wanted!

Hi theworldisflat and thanks for your question. In order for me to respond I am going to need a bit more information. Can you share with me your work experience to date? Also, what are your goals? These two items will help me determine if an MBA program is the right path for you or if perhaps you should consider another type of masters program.
Thanks,
Stacey
Thanks,
Stacey

I do not have any proper work experience, as of now. I intend to get a work on a few interesting internships this december and next summer.
My short-term goal (post-mba) is to get in to product marketing. I am also interested in organisational roles, though marketing is my first preference as of now. In the long-term, I want to join politics and do some good there
Hope the answers weren't vague. Pls do suggest wat u think is best for me. Thanks in advance

Hi,
Thank you for the clarification. Top US business schools do require work experience. On average you should have 2-5 years of full time work experience prior to applying. Perhaps another Masters degree is the best fit for you at this stage.
Best,
Stacey

Okay, thanks for the advice. What are the appropriate masters that I should be aiming for, in that case? And is doing an MBA after that an option? not immediately after, but a few years later

Hi,
Unfortunately I can't advise you as to what type of Masters degree you should seek. My expertise is in MBA programs and I'm afraid I don't have the information or resources to help you decide what other type of Masters degree would be most appropriate for you.
You can certainly seek out an MBA degree later on even if you already have a Masters degree in another area of interest. Just be sure that the degree you seek is one that will help you achieve your short and long term goals. Best of luck to you!
