Bricolage is an unusual art form because it is formed of materials such as knickknacks and cast-offs not usually employed by fine artists.

A. because it is formed of materials such as knickknacks and cast-offs

B. because it is formed of materials like knickknacks and cast-offs that are

C. because it is formed of materials, like knickknacks and cast-offs, materials

D. in that its formation, materials such as knickknacks and cast-offs, is

My answer is E

such as introduces examples
like introduces a comparison

so we can eliminate B and C

among A, D and E,
E is the best because the pronoun reference (materials) is clear.

I will also go with E.
B & C can be eliminated for the aforesaid reason.
Also,GMAT prefers "in that"

A is clearly incorrect as it produces a run-on or misses a referrent.
D changes the meaning and produces an awkward construction and also uses incorrect verb form "is"

so,Choice E remains :)
