“Schools should not teach specialized information and techniques, which might soon become outdated. Instead, schools should encourage a more general approach of learning.”

Many people believe that teachers ought to concentrate on the specialized information and techniques, especially in the today's globalization era. From my point of view, however, teaching children how to effectively approach to learning is the best method to improve their knowledge and abilities for several reasons.

Firstly and foremost, everything passes rapidly in today's world. Admittedly, the modern and advanced technologies often prove that some certain information or techniques are incorrect, and are needed to be amended. Hence, they become outdated so quickly that some people can hardly follow them. For example, computer engineers in twenty years ago, such as DOS and Banner, absolutely cannot apply what they studied from colleges to the present issues which are much more convoluted, such as the Internet virus and real-time communication programs. If they would like to keep themselves updated, they may have to enroll some special classes for modern computer applications, otherwise they would fail to success in their careers. Therefore, if schools teach children how to learn efficiently, students would never experience any problems if they have to take more classes in the future.

Secondly, the explicit benefit from learning the correct approach of study is that students will adapt themselves very well when they enter the new environments. The fundamental key of learning is to open people’s minds to something news, and to be flexible to the new things. This is notably advantageous in the future when students are exposed to the larger society. They have to deal with many kinds of people who all come from remarkably different backgrounds. Children who adapt themselves very well will get along with others very well.

Lastly, knowledge is not limited to solely any specialization. In the real working lives, many skills are required to apply together. Otherwise, people cannot work effectively. Students have to learn other skills as well, such as personal communication, persuasion, and so on.

In conclusion, students can efficiently dilate their knowledge if teachers focus on the general approach to learning new things. Passing through the effective instruction, students would always know how to obtain up-to-date information, be adjustable to their society, and ultimately can expand their learning to other areas, not limited to any specialization.
